Still being in travel mode, I decided to not stay in Taipei but hop on another bus instead and get out to the coast. I dropped off my bag in a city called Jiufen and then found another bus that goes around the coastal road
This part of the country has a very industrial feel from it’s fishing and mining industries
little fishing village
Some old and beat up boats
I love those lights though
A lot of the rocks are permanently discolored from all the mineral runoff from the mines
I wouldn’t touch this water, but it looks kinda neat
lots of moody skies
and algea
some of the rock formations
Getting back to Jiufen, this is the famous teahouse
everyone goes here at night to photograph the lanterns
hopped on a local train the next
This is the spot to set off lanterns for good luck and prosperity
A little hike to go see the waterall
not this one
this one!
nice
And then doing some more hiking in the misty weather
I had to hike on the tracks to get to this spot, kind of exciting
the mix of lush green scenery and industrial vibes
small, run down, but also charming village of Mudan
Village of Houtong, known for its cats
This guy posing nicely for me in the tunnel over the tracks
This is what happens when you put your umbrella down
Back out to the coast the next day, finally some sun
Yehliu Geopark, the most famous spot for the funky rock formations
Hopped on another bus out to the Laomei Green Reef, which only looks like this for two months of the year, and only at low tide
A fun spot for photography
and back to Taipei
The last evening, and then it was off to Hanoi!
